Use of a musical work on an audio carrier

The author has the exclusive right to authorise the reproduction of his or her work, i.e. to make copies of it. The EAÜ can issue a licence for the use of work by authors who are members of the EAÜ or of an authors’ society in another country.

You do not need to ask the EAÜ for permission if you want to record musical works by authors who have all died more than 70 years ago. If you wish to record a work by an author who is not a member of the EAÜ or any other organisation representing authors, you must contact the author directly.

What to do if you want to use a musical work on an audio carrier?

  1. Submit an application.
  2. The EAÜ will issue an invoice which, once paid, will act as a recording permit.
  3. You can now reproduce and record the music under the agreed conditions.

If you want to use a musical work for an online service, you need to contact the EAÜ to find out what licences and agreements are needed to access the service.

If you wish, you can also use an Excel form to submit an application, which you can download HERE.
Send the completed application to Margus-Koit Kivistik, a specialist in the recording and digital use department (margus@eau.org).

Recording and digital use

If you want to record musical works registered in EAU on a data carrier (CD, LP, etc.), use them in a film or other type of audio-visual work, or make them available online, you must obtain permission from EAU and, if necessary, conclude a contract. You do not need to ask the EAÜ for permission if you want to record musical works by authors who have all died more than 70 years ago, or who is not a member of the EAÜ or any other organisation representing authors, you must contact the author directly.
